How to Detect Duplicate Content

Why have your site slapped by an update due to duplicate content? I recently got some duplicate content from one of my blogs. In short someone stole my content. I communicated to them and they pulled it down immediately. Here is how to detect:

1. Use Copyscape: Enter your urls and it will inform you if there is any copied content from your website.

2. Use Google Alert: Enter the title or an exact sentence from your content in Google Alert. Make sure you put the sentence in quotes for exact match.

3. Check your trackbacks if you use Akismet.

4. Go to Google's Webmaster Tools and check out links to your content.

Copyscape is the most popular plagiarism checker. However, you could also use the programs that have been recommended on this thread: Any plagiarism software that is free and reliable?

If someone posts your content on their site and trying to contact the site owner doesn't work, you can contact the offender’s web host and they could ask the site owner to remove the material on your behalf.

 Thanks akowally for posting how to detect duplicate content which is very useful for content writing as content used to become poor if duplication of words found in it. Content's popularity is also decreased due to duplication of the words or phrases. Plagium and duplichecker are others to try....

 I find Google Webmaster as the best tool to find the duplicate content for the website.
It even helps to find the missing meta description of the webpage and duplicate title for the links.
Go with Google Webmaster Tools, its good to use for the issues of the website.

 I was looking for the name "copyscape" Thank you. As long as your not doing it, really don't worry about it I feel. Google will always credit where it found the original content first. Just make sure your ping your work so Google indexes it straight away.

 Google Webmaster is the best tool to find out the duplicate content of the website. Even SEOMOZ is also a good tool to find out the crawl errors of the website.
