need advice on my site

Hi all! Greetings from sunny Lithgow (LOL)
I would like to ask for some feedback on my site.
It is a site that I built several months ago. The aim was to make it a 'virtual mall', promoting a wide range of affiliate products.
When it started I had an awful lot of banners on it, and I read somewhere that they can be bad.
So I stumbled on an affiliate program that offer content feeds. (I think that's what they are called)
Anyway, my point is that although I have had over 1,600 hits I have not made one sale!
Can someone please help me out here.....:-(

By hits do you mean unique visitors
Usually stats show hits, uniquevisitors and visitors
Hits are not the number of people who have viewed your site
example is one of my sites it had 27000 hits for 80 uniques

Content feeds can be good as they give substantial content
Feel you need to presell your visitor, supply products, reviews, testimonials etc and why they should buy
At present it is just a site with affiliate links
You have a nice looking site

With a site such as this you would need to expand on your catagories and provide your unique content, and promote each separately

thank for that. I also have other sites that are only promoting the one product or service. But this is my first one, and I really want to improve it. I know that I get annoyed when all I see are links and hard sell.
I will try your advice
thanks again

Hi deb

Steve here, bedEXCHANGE.co.

I looked at your site. Its nice and easy on the eye that is great. I like the floral pictures, i think that is pretty. I couldn't find an email or contact anywhere... I would make one or two changes, but hey you didn't ask for my critique so no worry at all...

I've contacted you because i have an affiliate program with my site members.

My site offers members the chance to save thousands of dollars that would otherwise be spent on accommodation while traveling the world or trades & services to fix the home.

Its a social network, and people say its a great idea.

But don't take my word for it... Check it out at: http://bedexchange.co/

Let me know if you like it, and then we might be able to come up with a deal for an exchange.

Please contact me through my sites Support @ http://bedexchange.co/contact.php. This will help.

thanks

Hi deb

I read your first post again.

I will offer some advice...

I read the site stats, this may be normal for most sites in the first year. But check some research into link building, and what it can do for your site. Also i recommend using a quality keyword tool. Google has a free one to use. Learn how to use it by researching.

I may be able to offer some help on the detail above, just let me know. If you contact me through my site, i can reply with an article i wrote for keyword tool with google. It may help.

good luck

hey Deb

With all due respect- ...you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

I took my time to look at your site. After a few minutes navigating what stood out to me is that the sales copy has no form of SEO keywords integrated into it.

Your visits to your site averaged about 7 to 10 every day i seem to remember. As i said that is average for the first year of just about any website.

My advice is good. As i said i've got an article i could email to you in a split second. My experience is first hand. I had the best photographers website in New Zealand for visits prior to my new business bedEXCHANGE.co

The choice is yours. If you want a copy of the article just contact me.

Hi there debdix,

I checked on your site and its quite attractive. What I can suggest to you is perhaps you can add more content to your site that is very interesting to read by visitors, and also please increase the font size of your affiliate link at the center and make it bold to attract the eyes of your visitors. Also, put another affiliate link at the end of your homepage's content.

I hope that helps.

Your site is unique. It really looks nice, deb. However, the people here are right. Write more creative contents or introductions. You can also play with words on your banner instead of just 'welcome'. Appearance also makes viewers curious and browse your site. On your homepage, write a compelling introduction and welcome note with affiliate links.

I suggest having at least 500 words on each of your articles. Search engines love lots of high quality content so that would help you rank well and get more traffic.

You should also set up your on-page SEO Factors. Try using the Platinum SEO plugin. The following SEO lessons might be helpful:

The background and sidebar looks nice and neat, but the main content is a kind of messy, and your website content is not targeted enough. You should create some pure content to focus on, in your case you can write about finding good bargains on the net (as I can see what you've written on your homepage, that should be the topic you are subconsciously focusing), and eventually lead to explaining why your site is a great place to find these bargains.

Right now, it's like spamming all the Amazon products with no focus or reviews or any reason. You can create some reviews on specific products, and perhaps explain why it's such a good bargain. Choose 1 or 2 products to promote per category with a good review and explanation. And move the amazon widget to the bottom, saying that best bargains can be found on amazon or something like that.

Hi debdix,

I visited your site and while it looks ok, it appears more of a blog-looking site rather than a "virtual mall". You might want to change your website's design/layout and get the products out there for the visitors to see and not have them click through each link.

Your site offers a wide variety of items. I think it's good to focus on may be one item each week and highlight that as, let's say, Book of the Week, or Gadget of the Day or something like that. Also, get content on the site. What do you think about that book you're offering? What's your recommended product as best gift for Father's Day and why? What sunglasses would look great on a chubby face?

I think you'll make more conversions if you provide engaging content. This new blog post on how you can boost your conversions may also help.

Hope that helps. Have a good weekend!

I'd read up on some UX/UI (user experience/user interface) interface design concepts. The success of websites comes when you establish what you want your users to DO and then designing and testing with real users. Like suggested above, content is key and implementing some simple SEO practices will help you get noticed on search engines. Good content makes it appealing to visitors of your site and myself, as a user, will go to a site and if the content right off the bat isn't catchy, I'm bolting for the back button...
