What do you think of 'Members Only" content?

For a next step on my new ebook blog, I'm thinking of using a WordPress plugin (S2 Member Framework) to offer my mail list signups exclusive content (tips/tricks/advanced topics) on visual marketing. This would be a classic "Sales Incentive".

My thoughts:
Pros:
    1. Should help boost signups
    2. Help establish authority?

Cons:
    1. A fancy plugin and membership system I'd have to administer - more work
    2. More that can break
    3. Would have to keep coming up with new ideas and content not easily found elsewhere
    4. Would limit regular posts, as many topics headed to normal posting would get shunted to Members Only

What do you think?
...Of the concept?

...Any experience with that "S2 Member Framework" plugin for WordPress

Thanks All!

Cheers!

I don't have any experience with the S2 Member Framework, thus cannot give feedback on that.

As for the members' only area to boost sign ups, the idea has merit but putting it in motion would take considerable planning and effort. I think you should concentrate on getting a subscriber list going, all the while creating content for your members only site.

I'm thinking that maybe you can offer this membership deal to subscribers that do not unsubscribe after a certain period of time. Another option is to offer the membership deal instead of a free eBook.

Thanks for the advice Cecille!

Since I want to put my time to the best use to get my new ebook going, I'll just concentrate 50/50 on creating new posts and getting backlinks via social nets, etc.

Other than that, I'm making a "free bonus" for mail list signups - a brief "Checklist" of important visual items to check against one's pages.

Will revisit this exclusive members content idea sometime in future.

Cheers!

Hi _jim coe ,

Yes, that sounds good to me. I'd be careful with what content I share and do take it slowly when giving out information. If you want to pursue this members only project, then you want to make sure that you save the best tips for your future members.

I think it's great if you focus on your eBook and site for now. Baby steps! :)

Have a good weekend!
