Setting up a RSS channel to a blog?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of adding an RSS Channel to my blog. I'm a total newbie to it but I have read up on quite a bit of it but can't really find any useful info on how I can set one up. Does anybody know how to go about it?

Thanks in advance :)

It helps to know what you are using to create your blog.

If you're using Wordpress, it'll usually be there already. Just go yourblog.com/blog/feed or whatever, and something should pop up. You just need to link to it. That's if you're using a newer version of wordpress. Older versions use yourblog.com/blog/?feed=rss2 .

If you're using another content management system, it might be different. It might be set up already, or there might be a module or plugin you need to install. Search for "your CMS name create RSS feed", and something will undoubtedly turn up.

If you're not using any sort of content management system, then things get a little more difficult and you'll need to find some sort of software or script to turn your html pages into xml rss feeds.

I've only ever done it using a blog CMS system, so I'm not too sure how you'd do it with static, old-skool HTML pages. But since you say it's a blog... I'm guessing you'll be using some sort of CMS.

If worst comes to worst, ask professor Google :)

Hey Mark,

I'm using googles blogger ;)

I have checked in google but theres nothing that explains it well enough. Looking into the new blog rush widget John Reese has done, it says that you need an rss feed before you can sign up :)

Cheers

Sorry Wes, I still reckon Google is the way to go.

I have checked in google but theres nothing that explains it well enough.

By plugging in "blogger rss" I got this site as my first result.

http://www.looselycoupled.com/blog/lc00aa00013.html

which seems to say that Blogger doesn't offer RSS anymore, but does use the other major feed type "Atom".

A quick search of Blogger help yielded this:

http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?a ... topic=8927

which shows you how to set it up.

If you really, truly need RSS and Atom just won't cut it for you, the first link offers ways to convert it to RSS.

Good luck

Cheers Mark,

I was just searching for setting up and RSS Feed so that explains it.

The sites you've given there should sort me out. If I can't I'll just come and bother you a bit more :)

Thanks Mark, I found what I needed on the sites so I'm not going to bother you anymore, not for this anyway ;)

Wow!! Would recommend the blogrush widget to anybody with a blog, I've already had 5 hits through it and its only been up 2 mins :)

Best wishes,
Wes
