Are article directories still effective?

I just watched this video https://www.affilorama.com/introduction/ ... ve-methods and I noticed that it still suggests using article directories. I have heard that this is considered to be a bad idea since the Panda and Penguin updates. Are affiliate marketers still having success with this method?

I've been gearing away from using article directories even way before the Panda and Penguin updates. Mostly because there are many content marketing methods more worthy of your time and effort. For example, guest blog posting. You can more exposure and a quality link back to your site, plus you gain instant authority in your niche from guest posting.

However, many marketing still use article marketing in directories, so I'm not trying to say that it's useless or doesn't work. I'm just trying to say there are content marketing methods much more profitable for your time and energy.

Whatever your decision is, the best thing to do is just make sure you provide the best quality content that you possibly can. I believe it will yield more results for you, even with the readers from article directories. If your content is good, they'll want to click through to your site for more.

Google's number one goal is to generate the best information for its readers...not make our lives hectic as marketers. So, just keep that in mind in all your content marketing campaigns.

Hello Andy

Just re-watched the video. There are many things that can happen when you put quality original articles on article directories. As far as using them for S.E.O. backlinks, the S.E.'s are giving article links less and less strenght as time goes on. I personally have several hundred quality spun articles on many many article sites.

Up until the penguin update I had several of my internal pages ranking in the top 2-5 spots for their keyword phrases mostly from links from article sites. After penguin they all dropped down to page 2 or lower so I think that article links have been considered even weaker than before.

I can't say that they are worthless, but in time they might be, so all the work you might do now for article link building will most likely lose more strenght over time.

As far as being a
bad idea
, I don't think that the S.E.'s will penalize a site for this, you just won't get much benefit from it.

But!

It couldn't hurt to write some high quality articles for direct traffic. The article might not bring you much traffic from the article site itself but if it gets posted on some high traffic sites or blogs over time this could bring you some steady traffic.

Remember Quality Content is SUPER important!!!!!!!!

Never Give Up!!!

Hi, I just read and watched the video you posted... I actually went to one of the sites listed on the video as a good source for article marketing, and it turns out the site has closed... at least for the time being; this is the site I am talking about http://www.articlemarketingautomation.com/

You can still use article directories, but it is extremely important to write high quality articles that are original content. Make sure the articles are at least 500 words and informative. Do it consistently over a period of time and you will see the trickle effect multiply.

Whatever you do, don't use spun articles as this is a sure way to get your website slapped by Google. Also, I recommend sending articles to the top sites including EzineArticles.com or GoArticles.com. Hope this helps!
