Amazon affiliate program

I am getting really confused again , i watched great webinar with Sara Young and Mark Ling today i took a lot of notes but there is one thing which still bothers me ,
A lot of times i hear we do not need website to become affiliate and i wish it could be as easy to do so .
Since i am patiently waiting for Affilorama 3.0 i decided to not start with any site yet , i did try but i would just run myself to the point how to finish the rest of the site , so i decided in the mean time i will join amazon.com
Before i did this i send them email explaining that i am in the process of putting my site together and this is the response i received from amazon.com which simply send me to buy from them software i would be able to use to build my first site :

Hello Eva,

In order to become an Associate, you must have a website that is up and running.
While reviewing an application to become an Associate, we need to view the
website for content to ensure that it qualifies for our program. Also, you'll
need to be able to add links to your website.

You're more than welcome to use social networking and/or blog websites. Many of
our members use their profile pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger. At this
time, however, MySpace isn't an option.

A complete description of the Amazon Associates Program, FAQs, our Operating
Agreement, links to a selection of our Associate sites, and an online
registration form is posted at:

http://www.amazon.com/associates

If you have a site you can use, to apply just go to http://www.amazon.com/associates
and click the Join Now for FREE button. As you're going through the application
process, you'll see three steps:

1. Your Account Information
2. Your Website Profile
3. Start Using Associates Central

Make sure you've gone through the first step and clicked Submit at the end of
step 2. Once you've done that, you'll be given a unique Associate ID and have
immediate access to Associates Central.

For your reference, we'll send you an e-mail notification when we receive your
application, and we'll send another when your application has been reviewed,
which is usually within 24-48 hours.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your inquiry. Did I solve your problem?

Hi Eva,

There are some merchants who have their own affiliate system that do not require new affiliates to present their website or have their own websites. However, affiliate networks and established companies prefer to see an affiliate's website before accepting them, like Amazon.

From their response to your email, they are willing to accept social networking pages and personal blogs as "sample site".

You're more than welcome to use social networking and/or blog websites. Many of our members use their profile pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger. At this time, however, MySpace isn't an option.

You can take this route and create a Facebook fan page or maybe a Squidoo lens to promote Amazon products. You can also leave it as is for now and look into other strategies and further your knowledge while waiting for the new Affiloblueprint course.

I hope that helps. Have a good day!

Hi Eva,

I understand your frustration. Starting from something you really do not know is quite challenging and scary at the same time.

I think that what you need is some kind of motivation and inspiration. There are actually a lot of ways where you can start your affiliate marketing business. As what you've mentioned- you can build a website from scratch or you can use blog sites or networking sites. But whatever you choose from these two, it would not be that easy. Along the way you will encounter a lot of problems than solutions. This is affiliate marketing- you have to have motivation, patience, and a whole lot of effort to make things work out.

Honestly, the free tutorials here can already help you start with something. Of course, the new version of AffiloBlueprint would teach you a whole lot more. But again, as long as you do not have the right "thinking" and "attitude" about doing affiliate marketing, you would not get nowhere.

With Amazon, you can use free blogs and social network sites. Amazon allows you to use that as long as you adhere to their guidelines and conditions. I suggest, while you are waiting for the new blueprint to be available, try creating accounts on free blog sites and social networking sites like Facebook.

If you have no idea on how to really start creating accounts for the sites above, you can watch free video tutorials on how to create a Facebook page. Again, there are lots of materials you can use. You just have to know where to look. :)

I wish you luck! And always be positive on this :)

Hi Mary , thanks i do have account with facebook ( 488 friends worldwide ) , ( and Linkedin i don't use Twitter ) but what i meant was i have no clue how for example advertise physical products in my profile maybe with time i will become more confident .
I have site i started to build , review site by using Serif ( this is one product Software i know really good ) but my problem is i am half way and than i start to think if maybe i should choose some other physical product .
I believe if there would be maybe 20 to choose from i t would be easier for me , however i am reading a lot about putting site together , not only here on affilorama but just by searching the internet .
I am on Warrior forum , belong to Manta , Jvzoo, watch lisa on youtube and just learn all i can from other sources too and still i had no clue how to successfully sign with affiliates
I do know a lot specially about Seo , i have no problems with hostings i already use netfirms for about 17 years , putting site together is no a problem i do my own graphics , banners slide shows and i hope Ashton will help me with content so really what is keeping me i guess is i have no idea about in what order i have to put everything together .
When amazon said no not yet it really put me down because i still didn't understood in what order i have to start with physical product .
Build the site first , than apply for affiliate , or apply for affiliate and than build around some products .
Also if i build a site , review site how do i know the vendor or amazon will like it ?
I promote specific brand of dog food on my website i have for a long time and than when i asked them about becoming affiliate i never got response from them so i hope you will understand what my issue really is in here .
Thanks Mary , Eva

Hi Eva,

Yes everything is clearer now. Well, I advice that you start building your own website first and then fill it up with content. However, prior to this of course, you have to already know what niche you will be focusing and selling products to.

From what I heard, a lot of people say that it is best to start with Clickbank because it is easier and less of a hassle. But I believe you prefer physical products so you opted for Amazon.

If you are not sure what to do first, just follow the guidelines of Amazon: Build a website, create a content and submit the site for approval. I believe as long as you adhere to their guidelines you will get approved without any problems.

Do not be discouraged from what Amazon emailed you. The important thing is, you are still qualified to apply as an affiliate, right? :)
