Do the Maths: Your Blueprint for $1,000,000 in the Next 12 Months

I believe that marketing is all about the numbers. You can achieve any goal no matter how big it is with a little reverse engineering.

Do you know exactly how many affiliate sales you need to make over the next 12 months to achieve your income goals?

Do you have a goal? Do you have a detailed plan of exactly how you're going to achieve it?

Failing to plan is planning to fail. You've probably heard that before right?!

I recently spoke with a guy who makes a massive income through IM. He took me through the following exercise, It blew me away. Go through it with your own numbers and you'll be amazed at it's simplicity and power.

My goal for the next 12 months is crack a million bucks in online sales.

Here's how I'm going to do it.

I sell an clickbank product which has an average payout of $96.

1,000,000 / 96 = 10,416 (over the next 12 months I need to sell 10,416 ebooks - that's a hell of a big number right?)

10,416 / 52 = 201 (number of sales I need per week)

201 / 7 = 29 (I need to make 29 sales every day)

A poor performing sales letter will convert at 1% therefore:

29 * (100/1) = 2900 (this is how many people I need to send to my sales letter every day)

I'm catching people with a squeeze page to capture subscribers by giving away a free report. I expect to convert around 40% of people who visit my page.

2900 * (100/40) = 7,250 (This many people need to see my squeeze page every day - damn that's pretty scary.)

But! A well written newsletter series should see the conversion rate increase from 1% - 10%.

7250 / 10 = 725 (I need to generate this many views to my squeeze page every day - sounds a bit more like it!)

With $1,000,000 on the line do you think you could generate this much traffic to your sales funnel?

Put your numbers into this exercise right now. There's a real power in getting absolutely specific with your goal setting. Your situation will be different to mine so...

How much do you need to earn over the next 12 months? Where are you starting from? What resources have you got to work with? How much commission are you getting per sale?

Some Considerations

Remember that if you are only getting $17 per sale you're going to have to make 5 times as many sales as I am.

Make sure you're working in a market that has money to spend and is highly motivated to do so. I'm thinking weight loss, make money online, or relationships.

Being affilorama students you should already be well aware of this though.

Make sure the clickbank product you are trying to sell has a high gravity. You need to be sure that the sales page will convert before you send your hard earned traffic over to it.

Concentrate on one traffic strategy until you have mastered it. There's no point playing around with your sales funnel too much until you have a decent amount of traffic coming through to get meaningful statistics from.

There is a limit for what you can plan.
If you're planning for a year ahead - there is a lot of things that may not work out.
And it's not just about planning your business goals etc. It's about planning everything.
Did you ever tried to plan a weight loss program for a year for example?
Or any other thing that you have to work for every day?
It's too damn hard.. We can't be consistent for a year in a row. There always this thing that's in our way.. called life.
So the bottom line is.. there is no way that your going to plan something out for a year and keep it the way it was planned in a first place.

    Excellent Post. Thanks for this.

It actually makes you take a hard look at yourself rather than just going through the motions. I know with exercise and dieting it is really important to measure progress. It's a great motivator. This reverse engineering is the same in as much as it gives you a finish line or at least a marker in the road. Which gives you a quantifiable target even before sales start coming in.

What are my targets? Hmmm. Where's my pen and paper....?

I completely disagree with Alrexander. First you have to be in the right mindset. If your starting anything being negative and thinking of everything that can go wrong you don't have much of a shot. It is obvious that there will always be obstacles but its all about finding a way to get around it and staying positive and keep driving towards your goal.
If you lay out a plan for the whole year and start with that, then you probably will fail. You new to determine what your goal is at the end of the year and once you have done that you can cut the journey into chunks. You need to figure out what you need to do each week or month and focus on hitting those goals. That will make it a lot more attainable.
Even if you don't get to your goal you'll be a lot closer than you would have ever been there without the plan...and that's a good thing. It will significantly increase your chances of obtaining your goal the next time!
This post gives very good advice and it could be applied to many aspects of life. You need to have a destination in mind before you go.
