PHP for Feedback page, such as email page and contact page?

Is it safe to use PHP script for feedback page (such as email page me and contact page) to collect customer information? I know that there are some auto response software on the market. However for a new webie, I perfer to use free stuff, if it is safe.

 Do you know how to write your own? Seach the forums for my post on it...I wrote a long post on it. Search for php email.
