Work together with backlinks

I have been researching backlinks and am thinking it would be a good idea to exchange backlinks. For example, placing each others URL's in each others blogs/articles. Wouldn't this help with SEO ?

 It would but link exchanges aren't as effective as they once were. Search engines look for relevance now so you just can't post a link of a website on any article on your website. You need to write an article and cite the other website as a source, and the other website would need to do the same.

Link exchanges have been replaced with guest blogging or guest posting. Infographics are also a great way to build backlinks.

 I agree with Cecille. With the many algo updates from Google, it is best to stick to more quality link building strategies, which include a lot of content marketing. Social media strategies are also (but indirectly) helpful to SEO.

 If Google realize there is a link exchange on purpose they penalize both web-pages. If it was so easy, it was not necessary to get around here.

 Exchanging link from one site to another is a part of black hat technique which is against Google guideline. Google soon will catch you and punish both the sites. I would not recommend this.

 Even telling or forcing people to link exchange is generally something you can be penalized for. I don't know what Google thinks of Link Exchanges at the moment, but in future updates, they will probably develop something to find out about them, and automatically penalize the people who link exchange.

 Surely it will really help most esp if the websites involved are of high page and domain authority. but when doing the exchange , include some useful content alongside the links that can compel visitors to want to click and visit your website on the other side.

I agree with you but link exchanging were worked before the update of panguin now Google only encourage the website with Quality content and organic baclinks
