Will link wheels be considered Black Hat in the near future?

Hello all.

Been reading a lot about link wheels lately and found many conflicting remarks.

Most people say that link wheels are still a powerful and good link building strategy and I can see why.

On the other hand, some people say that they are black hat and should be avoided.

It seems to me that Google in time will recognize link wheels and even if they work well now, down the road they may hurt your site. They take an awful lot of work and time to build and I don't want to start building them if it is going to come back to bite me in the rear latter on.

I think that if you mix up the property links rather than keeping the perfect wheel format they will seem more natural to the S.E.'s but I'm not sure if it will prevent Google from punishing you for them in the future.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

The only way that link wheels could be effective long term is if each property were to contain quality, relevant/related information, which will take more than twice as much time as it takes to set the things up in the first place. You can outsource having these properties setup, you can even outsource having the content created and added to the sites, but if you don't have a strong plan, then I wouldn't even waste my time. Then there's the fact that a lot of these social network type sites come and go relatively quickly, so it comes down to whether you want to build them up or not.

The Way Google started Panda Updates it could be possible to find out the links and keep track of every link with ownership and make no favor to this kind of link wheel

I also believe Linkwheel is one of the best ways to create effective backlinks but not all types are good. I have seen many people claiming better results with unique link wheel but usually they don't us the diagram.

Thank you everyone.
I have done a little more digging regarding link wheels and their future.

From what I have found, even though a link wheel might be effective right now, google is working on ways to identify this type of strategy and I don't think they will be worth while in the near future.

As soon as google would identify the wheel they are likley to do two things. First of all they may disregard the links making them useless. Second, they may punish your site if you have several wheels.

In short, it seems that building link wheels is no longer a good strategy for long term link building.

Google always " worked on identifying the links wheels"
As long as you know what you are doing, you shouldn't worry:)

honestly, the best SEO strategy is to ignore SEO. Link wheels, link networks, etc... all have one thing in common: they are designed to game the system and build undeserved authority in google's rankings.

if you focus on your readers, and build quality links and focus on the direct traffic you are sending to your webites through every effort you put out, you will find your Google rankings go up without even trying.

I wouldn't waste my time on link wheels. In the last month and a half the traffic on my site has absolutely exploded. All I have done is a very small amount of link building - but the links I have created have mostly been very high quality ones (even though most have not been relevant to my niche).

Just this week I was able to get a new post on my website on to page 1 of Google within about four days (for a good keyword) - with absolutely no backlinks and only 1 tweet. That's the power of having a website which Google considers authoritative (by having links from authority sites).

This is the name of the game now: quality. Quality on your articles/content for your readers and quality links. Don't get caught up in getting your pages ranking, get traffic to your site and once you get decent daily traffic, the rank and sales will follow.

Have a good day!

I agree don't bother with a link wheel it is just too much work since you have to have many articles on different places pointing to other article is a few less place which in turn are pointing to your main site. I would rather have all my articles pointing to my site in the first place.

The effectiveness of link wheels depend on how you actually implement them. If you consider "link wheels" as something that is for backlinking- don't. A lot of people have mistaken using link wheels this way. Of course backlinkng counts, but more than that, use link wheels to spread quality and unique content. Do not do link wheels with PLRs, poorly spun articles, and duplicate content. Instead, create content that is focused to quality- something that will really help your readers a lot. Additionally, get different linking strategies with your link wheels (to avoid unnatural linking).
