What is the exact meaning of keyword difficulty?

The keyword SEO difficulty or keyword competition is a major keyword metric when doing a keyword research. The higher the value, the harder is to compete with others on the market using that keyword. It's a critical metric alongside with exact monthly search volumes and SERP analysis.

 It is not always true that the higher the keyword difficulty metric is, the harder it is to rank for that keyword. You still need to check your top competitors for the keyword and weigh if there is tight competition for this keyword.

 keyword difficulty is a major keyword metric in keyword research.keyword difficulty is based on PA & DA scores of websites. How hard would it be to rank for a particular keyword given the level of competition around it.

Keyword Difficulty is a calculation done by the SEOMoz research tool that takes into account a number of things including: competition (how many pages are currently ranking for that particular term), how many people are bidding on the term in paid search, how expensive are the clicks

 Keyword difficulty assumes a site ranks only based on links. This is not true nowadays especially, and KD metrics are becoming increasingly outdated. You cannot rely on this anymore. Google uses user behavior and matches user intent to content. So if there is a topic that has all websites with a lot of links ranking (high KD score) but for some reason is not fulfilling user intent, a low authority site can rank. So it relies on a manual inspection. However keyword difficulty is great for bulk analysis, then you can refine further with manual competitive analysis.
