Using content from deleted website

Hi,

I work for a company who have a website which they no longer want to use (they've asked me to delete the website).

The site ranks well for the targeted keywords and I think it is a shame to just loose this.

I was wondering If I setup a new domain and used the text from this website (which i wrote myself) would my new site be penalized for duplicate content?

Do I need to wait a few weeks for Google to see the site is no longer hosted etc?

The site is an informative site setup for lead generation but im thinking I can use the rankings to make a little bit of AdSense money.

Many Thanks
Nick

I once had a site like that and I used a web-based software I purchased to rewrite, compare and re-purpose the website with a new domain name. It depends on you. If you think you can have the time to do the rewrite and re-purpose the Web site contents, you'll not only use it to generate more leads but you'll also get some money from affiliate products. That my 2 cents!

Yes, rewriting is a better option than simply reproducing content. The referred site may be offline but the content is 'old'. Therefore give up the idea of reduplication.

Best of luck with your new website. And, for future reference, you should know there is a difference between syndicated or republished content and duplicate content. The latter refer to duplicate content which appears on the same site, such as when dozens of pages contain similar articles.

Another issue could be faced in that your employers purchased the articles and might still consider that content to be their property. So, it's good that you were able to get the permission first before using the content.

You can't use that content, because crawler already crawled that content, so this would be spamming. Google panda algorithm would be affected your website.
Use only fresh content.

Congratulations! I think if you're migrating the site and what to keep the rankings from the current site, what you may need to look into is to use 301 Permanent Redirects.

Good luck!
