Sitemap for website

I want to know that Is sitemap is helpful in SEO.I read in some post that sitemap helps google in finding our web pages.

 Yes it is useful and you can create it by using following steps-
1. Enter your full website URL and some optional parameters in the form.
2. Press 'Start' button and wait until the site is completely crawled.
3. You will be redirected to the generated site map details page, including number of pages, broken links list, XML file content and link to a site map file. Download the site map file using that link and put it into the domain root folder of your site.
4..Go to your Google Webmaster account and add your site map URL.
By using this you can can create site map of your site and this will help you to increase your page rank.
