Moving up in google search through SEO

i have been using ppc for one of my sites i have been getting tons of clicks from it (my target keyword has about 40,000 searches a month)

now i want to try seo for the target keyword-

for example if you have a site that is listed on the 6th page of the search results for your chosen keyword and you want to move up in the search results how long does it take google to index your site higher in the listings after you optimize your site

hope the question is not to confusing

thanks,
Nathan

Alot of it comes down to the amount of sites that are linking back to you. This is probably the single most important factor in moving up the rankings in Google.

Might want to watch this video on how to get back links.

You want to use a variation. Obviously the keywords you are targeting are important but you also don't want to be seen as spammy by using them for 1000's of links. You want to use a variation on anchor text so it looks as natural as possible.

ie. if you are targeting "towels" as your primary keyword you mighty use a few variations such as "places to buy towels" "towels" "my towel shop" "best towels" "buying towels" etc...

Hope that helps you out a little.

PS: Remember if it looks spammy to you then the chnaces are the search engines will figure it out (either already or in the near future!). They get smarter every day :)

lorelle on wordpress had a helpful article a few years back (many of the principles still apply) that would be worth reading to get some background on how google determine page rank

To add to the point simon touched on, it's also a good idea to link to deeper pages within the site. Linking to the just the homepage not only looks un-natural to the search engines, it doesn't benefit the rankings of any of your other pages either.

Hi, Mark,
I have one live blog "http://buildmusclesmart.com"
I am doing a lot of things to promote it and it is slowly climbing to the front page of Google.
Actually, 3 pages are sitting already at the 1st Page taking positions #7, 8 and 8.
I have 38 articles written and 12 of them are submitted already. I ordered these articles at copywriter exactly like you teach, one article around one keyword.
Traffic is a little bit slow. During 2 weeks I increased it to 16 daily visitors only. I keep submitting 1 page daily or sometimes in 2 days.
Probably, I do not promote it so actively or my pages do not create a wish to go through to the vendor's site.
I submitted my blog to 35 Social Bookmarking sites and several Article directories including eZineArticles.com.
Would you so kind to look at my Blog and give me some advice.
Probably, something is wrong with my blog and I have to make some corrections or,
everything is going well and this is just matter of time to start getting sales and I have to go and begin another site.
I registered Domain and hosted it to the HostGator for another site.
So, I need your professional advice.
Thank you!
Toly

I use NeuroLinker, as far as I know it's the best 3 way back link service. It has social bookmarking as well where you bookmark other members sites and they do the same for you. It's only $27 a month too.
