 Welcome to the forums, I don't think I've seen you around here before.

SEO is important in terms of helping potential customers find you faster on their search engines. The higher you rank in SEO, the closer to the first page, top of the list will your website be listed. The problem is that Google, especially, is constantly changing their algorithms that determine how you rank in SEO. This can make it a very daunting task for any small business. Thankfully, however, they seem to be going back to the basics with many of their strategies & now content seems to be king. You still need to do all of the basics to be sure that you're ranking as high as you can, ie. keyword research, linking in with social media, etc. , but content is weighed more heavily than it was before. Making fresh, useful & non-copied content for your site will make google happy & your SEO ranking better.

 Well, in my views ...

SEO is not important if....

1. You are good at video marketing
2. You are good at article marketing
3. You are good at list building
4. You are good in Social Media Marketing
5. You can afford to spend on PPC

You don't need to be master of all trades .. just choose one and master in that...

But yes, SEO is good if you can dig deep and find a profitable niche that has high demand but moderate competition and if you can wait at least 3-4 months to see it get ranked...

 If you don't have budget for adwords, then you must go for SEO to make more people know about your business. SEO takes time to learn and can not be done quickly. For adwords, you get traffic instantly, but don't expect instant visitors after creating backlinks in a few days :)

Search engine optimization is neither easy nor fun, nor is it the quickest way to get traffic to a site. There are much easier ways to get traffic via Pinterest and Facebook and other social media sources including Tumblr, WeHeartIt and even Reddit or forums. You just have to take time to learn how to properly interact with others on these sites to get involved in helping rather than simply relying on a random thing like SEO to generate traffic.
