How to rank a particular keyword on Google?

Can somebody share technique from their experience that will help to rank a particular keyword on Google SERP.

 It depends on how crowded the niche is and what the keyword is.
Generally, in order to rank for a keyword you have to use it in key areas of your webpage (page title, meta keywords, h tags and in the content).
If the niche is crowded and the keyword has too many searches, maybe it is a good idea to try to rank for related long tail keywords which have less competitivity.
Once you have a good rating for these keywords you should try to rank for the keyword you first targeted

 If I understand correctly, you are just trying to rank locally (in Mumbai) for "website design company". This can be easier than trying to rank globally.
So, if you want to rank you should use that keyword in key areas of your website:
- website title, use something like this: Company Name | Mumbai Website Design Company
- website headings
- in the content of your website

On question though. If you are working in the website developing area, aren`t you supposed to have at least an idea of these things?

 It depends on several points.

1. You have to do a strong on-page.

i. Use your keywords in meta tages, like meta title, meta description and meta keywords.

ii. Put your keywords in URL.

iii. Maintain proper keyword density on the web page content.

iv. Your site should be responsive.

 Your site on-site optimization should be so strong. As Caroline Murphy said, also covered targeted keyword in meta tags, URL, image alt tag, keyword density etc.

 You want to rank on “website designing company in Mumbai“, need to focus on local seo strategies.

You can list your website on all local business directories, create local content, and put this keyword into your webpage and Meta as well.

Also, you can generate some links for this keyword.
