Help With Duplicate Title Tags and Meta Descriptions

The Google webmaster tool tells me that I have duplicate title tags and duplicate meta descriptions.

I have a wordpress website. I know what caused the problem. I have siloed some of my site. Here is an example of what I am talking about.

"/fixing-dog-behavior-problems/how-to-stop-a-dog-from-digging" but most of my backlinks are for "how-to-stop-a-dog-from-digging" same with biting,barking,chasing. I did not use the longer siloed url.

Right now my google webmaster tool says I have 8 pages with the problem but will have more (AMAutomation,articles etc...). How big of a problem is this going to be for me. Thanks for the help.

 Hi, if you leave it as is google will see it as duplicate content and not rank your site as high as it could be. So this is your problem right there.

Easy to fix. Change the title tags and meta descriptions so they're different. Problem avoided.

 Hello Waldemar, A few days ago I found and installed a wordpress plugin called SEO No Duplicate by Thaya Kareeson (just type in seo no duplicate into the "get new plugins" to find it).
Wether this plugin will do the job I am not sure yet (I think it will). It will probably take a little bit of time to find out if it works or not.
For future reference if you put up any new articles and silo them here is what you can try (I put up a few new articles the other day and did it this way).
Put your article on your site and then donot publish it yet, just Save It To Draft. Then go to edit,go to Quick Edit on that article and put it in the Parent that it belongs to and then Publish it.I think that will work.

Go check out the SEO No Duplicate plugin and see what it has to say.

 Found an interesting tool that will help you find dup content... it's called xenu.

It scans your directories and spits out all your pages. If you sort the titles, you'll see there may be dupilcate titles. That is an indication that the same page was created twice. WP is known for creating dup pages. Found a bunch on my domains.

If you open the program and then goto options, prefrences, then check --> treat redirections as errors and redirected URLs, the program quick identifies dups in red. Providing that you have auto 301 redirects from plugins like Platinum SEO or canoncials.

I think google or any other search engine should be clever enough to understand this, as it is completely natural case with wordpress.
I don't think it will affect my rankings but i will change them just in case.

 I would advise you friend just change your title and description otherwise Google may be block your site so be careful.

 if your website have duplicate meta tags than remove duplicate meta tag and put unique title, meta description and keywords.

 Same thing happened with my website also. I simply changed the title tag and description of the pages and monitored the Google webmaster on daily basis to make it to Zero.

 The All in One SEO Pack and the Platinum SEO Pack plugins have the canonical URL option, which allows you to tell the search engine what your preferred version of the URL should be. This feature helps avoid duplicate content issues with the search engines.

Meta tags should be page specific therefore if you have pages in different languages, you would have the tags in the language appropriate to the page, with content focusing on those words and phrases specific to that page.

If the page is in two languages (probably not a good idea), you could have a short meta tag (within the character limits), with one language following the other.

 Ok, duplicate title tags/duplicate meta descriptions are really bad. How to fix it?
Basically, all we need to do to fix duplicate title tags and duplicate meta descriptions issue in Blogger is to hide links to comments in your posts from search engines. Content of the comments will still be in search engines because it is a part of your post page.

So the fix is performed in three steps:
1. Edit template
2. Wrap blog archive widget
3. Remove or replace recent comments widget

Note: there is a small twist though: Google will still be able to dig some links to your comment pages from your comments feed (usually located at /feeds/comments/default).

After following instructions supplied here, Google Webmaster Tools will not bother you with the duplicate title tags/meta descriptions issue as there will be none (it takes time for Google to re-crawl all your site, so be patient, takes about 2-3 weeks). This will boost your search engine rankings a little bit since Google now thinks your site is "Google friendly" (and in fact it is).

 duplicate is a wrong term duplicated title is unacceptable by search engine you loose your result duplicate meta description is allow

Yeh i agree with you installing this plugin will automatically handle your problem after installing this plugin it will take time to be removed from the listing but soon it will be removed duplicate meta tags and discription

 If your website have duplicate meta tags than remove duplicate meta tag and put unique title, meta description and keywords.

 if you use wordpress blog platform, you can use the All In SEO Pack and setting up the home page or other pages with meta posting a different description or for any other platform can install the script meta description.

 Traffic Travis says I don't have meta descriptions, I entered them into seo box under post and thought that's enough. Should I also enter meta tags ?

Also, some of my url's are too long, over 76 characters. I uploaded the plugin, no category base, as advised and thought this would remove the category from my permalink. It's the whole purpose of the plugin isn't it ?

I can manually change my permalinks on post pages but it's a headache to do and to then check they're all working and then they'll be un-indexed ? I'll have to wait for google to find them again and the old ones will float about in cyberspace caches and disrupt my site.

Any advice on these would be greatly appreciated...

 It is easy to solve this problem, just change the title tag. Obviously google webmaster will not rank the duplicate contents

Hi Cecille!

I just installed SEO Ultimate after having read the reviews, mainly because I wanted the canonicalization function. I'm a beginner with heaps to learn, and am wondering where one can learn more about how the plug-ins work! I have activated the canonicalization thing, but don't know if I need to change the settings in it, or if the default mode is good as it is. And I have no idea about what to do with all the others! Are there tutorials somewhere?

 why coming the problem of duplicate title tags and duplicate meta descriptions. oh my brother you are using the duplicate title tags and meta descriptions. please now write again the title tags and meta description. Then you see that problem solved.

 Any wordpress seo plugin you use will have a setting for meta tags. Whether it be title tags, meta desc, or kw tags that are not used anymore.

 Duplication is a big issue and you need to correct it now. If you have script then change it now or do it manually one by one by adding different meta information.
