What is email marketing, and where did it begin?

The first email, sent by Ray Tomlinson in 1971 or 1978 depending on your source, marked the beginning of the modern communication era. The message was nothing special, a series of numbers and letters that looked more like a password than a message, but its significance was profound.

The email was sent from one computer to another, traveling through a network of machines not unlike the internet we know today. Tomlinson also introduced the "@" symbol in email addresses to the world.

Gary Thuerk, a Marketing Manager at Digital Equipment Corp, sent the first commercial email years later, where the message reached a list of email addresses. And voila, email marketing was born. There were only a few hundred people on the list, but that was enough for Thuerk to claim the mantle, "Father of Spam."

Today, we're inundated with email marketing campaigns, and yes, some of it still feels spammy, but there's no denying the impact a well-crafted message can have on your customers—not to mention CRM and lead nurturing.

Agreed, you should personalize your message in the email. Also, it is kinda important to organically insert promotion to content, making it not so obvious. Try to tell about some cases of successful goods or services use

Good points! I guess, email marketing will be live till the internet exist, but anyway it depends on the niche. It works really great when you already know something about you targeting auditory and can make your email useful for every user. Also, the main body have to be short and easy to understand, it`s good to notice some benefits of your offer, so the user get the fealing that he actually need it

Of course every marketer knows that marketing campaign is the key to success. For me, some of the main tips for successful marketing campaigns are: never underestimate what social media can do, use various technologies to understand your strengths, host in person or online events, don't forget about your existing customers. These things to my mind are fundamental. Some marketers often forget that they already have customers in chasing for the new ones, it's a big mistake because there might be a situation when they can remain wothout their customers and lose the opportunity to attract new ones.

I believe it all depends on niche when we talk about effectiveness of email marketing. Some of the products and services need to be promoted only via email.
