 Social media has an indirect impact on SEO. You cannot rely on your SMM alone to increase ranking since this platform was not proven yet to have a direct impact to web rankings.  You really need to do social marketing just to be on trend. Impact is indirect I would say but it's here and it's could be noticed over time. When you have some highly liked and visited Facebook/Instagramm/Youtube profiles, links from those to you really boost rankings itself.
