How long will it be before I see benefits from backlinking?

I have recently been doing a lot of backlinking stuff.

iIchecked today and my main site has 324 confirmed backlinks (throughout 3 urls). Not a lot but it's a start. All the of the back links are from 3+ pr sites.

What is the main benefit of backlinks? What should I expect in the future from building more and more backlinks? How do websites benefit?

I'm sorry if this question might sound like a broken record. I just need to know.

 as of now 48 hours after the confirmed backlinks- according to alexa.com there are not being shown yet.

 Not all of your backlinks will be shown by programs that track backlinks. Most search engines do not fully reveal the number of backlinks they have indexed for a particular site.

And some backlinks will take a long time to be indexed because they are on low quality websites that don't get crawled often.

In my opinion, you shouldn't worry about how many backlinks are showing up on any given backlink-checking program, but rather how many quality backlinks you are building.

Thanks, so the more quality backlinks in turn will tell the SE that my website is getting more and more important?

 if you content is unique and fresh then you will get good backlinks on your website.
