Many people are drawn to affiliate marketing through a desire to work from home and be their own boss. A recent study by Indiana University found evidence to support the fact that online learning is actually superior to classroom-based training, primarily because special efforts are made by tutors to engage students. This is good news for the increasing number of people considering affiliate marketing as an answer to issues such as childcare responsibilities and long commutes. Working from home is also believed to reduce stress levels associated with juggling work and private life commitments, and lead to job enrichment through the freedoms gained by being one's own boss. However, new entrepreneurs often forget to take into consideration a significant drawback of working from home: The deep sense of isolation you can feel when you are struggling alone to master a new business and the accompanying challenges.

Fortunately, this problem is now beginning to be recognized by some online business training companies, such as the affiliate marketing portal, Affilorama.com. Affilorama provides step-by-step training, information and resources for people wishing to make money with affiliate marketing, and they believe they are also well on the way to overcoming the isolation of working from home. From the outset, Affilorama has recognized that its members - who are based in more than 20 different countries - could easily feel isolated in their efforts to establish an affiliate marketing business, and that some would be more likely to give up as a result. So when Affilorama was launched in 2006, Affilorma's founder Mark Ling made sure that a members' forum was part of the training package. This means members can login and chat to other Affilorama users at any time of day or night about their progress, or just pass the time of day. The forum has been enthusiastically embraced by Affilorama members, including New Zealand member Billy Lockwood, who says "Affilorama provides a great place to meet people who are in the same boat as me. These connections are really useful for bouncing ideas off one another and keeping us motivated through the tough times, and the staff are always there too with the answers I need".

Although Affilorama isn't the first online training portal to offer a forum, few other sites can compare with the sheer amount of support Affilorama members receive. The company's staff are on the forum daily and reach members through various routes including email, live webinars and social media outlets.

Now Affilorama has gone even further in its efforts to encourage community spirit by making forum member profiles public by default. This means members will more readily be able to view information about other members, including their name, location, photo, previous forum posts and their websites. Those who want to take sharing a step further can even write a blurb about themselves to add to their profile.  Ling says:  "Our move to encourage public member identities will accentuate our friendly, welcome environment so members can develop kinships with ease and feel less alone embarking on their common ventures".

Being able to view other members' profiles has a number of advantages for Affilorama members, including the ability to learn more about the people they chat to, or whose advice they are reading, potentially contact other people living in their area and even band together for joint venture partnerships. In turn, home-based affiliate marketers have an easy avenue to receive support and understanding from like-minded people when they are facing challenges or achieving success.
