How Competition and Search Volume Works in AdWords

Hi, i have a couple of Pics to show what is that i don´t understand, first we see a pic with a keyword with low competence but high volume of montly global searches:

Why does it have so low competence if it has so much search volume

And then we have the keyword with High competence, but very very low montly global searches:

And why this one has SO much competence and so few search volume, so how can i understand this so i can choose apropriate keywords for my site? Thanks for any help

Hi angelnewsletters,

I think you mean Competition and not Competence as there is no such thing on the search results in Google AdWords. Competition in AdWords refer to the number of advertisers bidding for that keyword. The higher the competition, the higher the bid.

The global monthly search of a keyword does not have a direct relation to the keyword's competition. As the images you've attached to your post proves, not because a keyword has low monthly search volume means it has low competition. A keyword that has high competition but low monthly search volume means a lot of advertisers are bidding on that keyword. There may not be a lot of people using that keyword, but it could be a keyword that targets a specific market that advertisers want to tap.

Thanks Cecille one more time for your support, what i don´t understand is whay should i bid (or actually many people does) on a keyword with SO LOW search volume, what is the point, is a keyword with 6,000 GLOBAL searches, thats only 200 searches a month, even if you get ALL traffic for yourself i really don´t think you coul pay even one of your many montly bills. so i don´t understand how or a keyword can get SO MUCH competition if there´s no mony at all, i´m i wrong? or if i really am, where?

It's possible that these keywords, whilst having low global monthly searches, have high buyer content. For example, the keyword "lose weight" has a global monthly search of 9,140,000 but only has medium competition. The more targeted keywords like "how to lose weight fast" has high competition but lower monthly search of 823,000. Even lower than that is "quickest way to lose weight" at 90,500 but has high competition as well. If you look at these keywords, they have higher buyer intent as compared to "lose weight".

Thank you very much cecille, even when i have several lessons in affilorama, i didn´t understand that at all, now everything makes sense to me, next step forward is to learn what kind of keywords are "buyer" keywords, and what kind are "searcher" keywords

You're welcome! Mark explains the different types of keywords in Affiloblueprint. If you have that, then you may refer to the Step 1 lessons.

"Buyer" keywords have buyer intent such as the one in my previous post. "Search" keywords are keywords you would normally use when looking for information.

Hi cecille, thanks for your support, i do not have affiloblueprint yet, but i´m on the free lessons, and some other books i´m learning IM and some SEO, but each time i get a question answered another two pop up on my mind lol, it´s funny, they are like rabbits or something, and i really had no idea at all WHY people fight for keywords with no search volume, then i learned that some keywords might have too much volume, like "hairstyle" keyword, very popular, but it does not sell at all, i learned that on 1 of my affilorama free lessons: https://www.affilorama.com/introduction/examples-of-affiliate-sites-how-are-they-making-money
