Adwords/Direct Linking/Blog orSquidoo As Your Landing Pages?

Okay so I have been getting more into the PPC stuff now and I'm a little confused about what to do because I hear Direct Linking doesn't work anymore (however, Google Detective 2 and Chris Carpenter says other wise) I've read 3 eBooks and I think I understand the basics and keyword research and all that. I have learned pretty much how to do everything at this point. Now! What I want to know just in case direct linking isn't acceptable anymore I want to know if you are able to use blogs and squidoo as landing pages. Also if you can put those in the display URL. I hear a lot about the display URLs and how there is a strict rule

Does a blog count? for an example a blog such as this:

bass-guitar-center-blog.blogspot.com/

or

http://sleep-city-crisis-blogs.blogspot.com/

Could I use this first of all as my landing page and can I use a disply link for these like for an example...

Bass-Guitar-Blog.com

or

Sleep-City-Crisis.Blogs.com

Or do I REALLY have to get a domain name and all that crap?

Of course try to make sure your keywords match the words on the URL of the blog...

 you might find it's a lot easier to setup your own domain name than you think - you can get one for less than $10 and tell your blogspot to use your new domain name. that means you dont need to worry about building a website or hosting fees. just one other thing, page rank is more determined by site age and content rather than domain name so make sure thats your focus

 Cool man thanks! I'm listening to the Webinar now but I was wondering I'm confused about this direct linking thing.

 I am a newbe and still confused on how direct linking works.Im in ppc classroom and canot access the fourms yet for help.In the moduels they tell u about direct linking but not how to set it up.Anyboy know a good step by step tutorial?
