Can someone recommend a hosting (and domain registering company) based in the UK ? I know the normal recommendations are Hostgator and Go Daddy but they are based in the US.

Why is it important to you that the companies are based in the UK? We have no problems using US-based companies from New Zealand. They're usually cheaper too.

Hi Aletta, fair enough, was just trying to avoid monthly exchange rate charges / handling costs on my credit card!

Exchange rate charges cost me, like, CENTS each month! Haha... although yours might be much more drastic. I think if you're getting into this game you're probably well served by getting a credit card that doesn't smack you around the head too hard for making international purchases... you might be making a few!
