What is Squidoo?

Squidoo is a cross between a social networking site and an authority portal. It’s made up of lenses, which are basically content pages prepared on a wide variety of topics by enthusiastic members. Because Squidoo is focused on learning and valuable information, the site tends to attract a higher quality audience compared with traditional social networking sites.

Let’s take a brief look at an example of a Squidoo lens:

This particular lens is on the subject of Greek cooking. As you can see, it’s essentially a one-page website broken up into sections such as the inspiration for the lens, recipes, links to other related sites and recommended books. It’s very informative, plus the author is earning some money by linking to related books on Amazon and tshirts for sale on CafePress.
