Yes,your article should be related to your product. Articles are like "testimonials" that validate the need to purchase your products. Inadditon , If your articles are related to each other you can easily link one article into other pages of your sites, which is a good and effective SEO practice.

Yes you hit it spot on tankctrlr.. if you are starting and you have only one article, people won't be interested with the site. More content uploaded at once, speaks for credibility and authority for your site. :-)
