Justin David Hughes works for software maker Oracle as an account manager specializing in core technology which encompasses the Oracle Database, security, identity management, single sign-on and engineered systems. He has been in sales for over 15 years as well as the owner and operator of 2 local businesses in Maryland and Virginia. Prior to becoming employed by the software giant, Justin was in the mortgage business for 5 years as well as an account manager in internet, data and voice services.

Justin Hughes has been able to differentiate himself from other sales professionals by practicing consultative selling, which requires for the customer’s needs to always be kept in mind. He believes in always doing right for the customer. The concept of 'consultative selling' was first published in a 1970s book Consultative Selling written by Mack Hanan, an expert in business-to-business sales. In his book, he talks about a selling technique where the salesperson positions himself as an expert to his prospect and through a series of questions uncovers the client’s needs in order to be able to sell the right product or service to meet that need. Justin Hughes echoes this by saying “If you sell your customer the right solution then they will trust you and continue to buy.”

Having graduated with a degree in Business Management from Southern Vermont College, Justin Hughes has always been drawn to a career in sales. He started his sales career as a loan officer for a mortgage company. After experiencing success within the company, Justin was asked to go to McLean, VA to run a new office with five loan officers. Once mortgage rates started escalating, he was offered a position with an internet connectivity company as an account manager and sales in internet, data and voice services. This step launched Justin’s career as a Sales Manager in the technology corridor. Justin left his position after a few years to pursue his own entrepreneurial ventures.

After owning a furniture store and creating a painting and contracting company, Justin Hughes decided he wanted to take his experiences and go back to corporate america and technology sales. This decision is what led him to his current position at Oracle as an Account Manager. He says that Oracle is a great company to work for and he enjoys working with customers on IT solutions that help run the application environments.
