Banner/Logo for my site - Can I do this?

I bought a banner/logo for a new website and I got it in psd as well as jpg and gif,as you suggested. I tried to manipulate the psd to see if I could change the text or anything, but was unable to.Should I be able to? I thought the purpose of a psd was to hae everything in layers so you could change the domain name or anything else. No? Do you need a special editor? I only have basic software(microsoft digital editor,no photo shop) Can you explain?thanks

A .psd file is an Adobe PhotoShop file. So you will need either PhotoShop or PhotoShop Elements to edit it. Template vendors supply the logo and other graphics files in .psd format so you can customize them using PhotoShop.

You can download 30-day trials of both from Adobe's site. That way you can make the changes you need for now for free.
