Google indexed 60 pages on my site including 404 error pages

Playing around with Sitemap xml and when I finally tried to verify my domain, Google crawled my site and indexed 60 pages.

Bad thing is, it indexed a bunch of 404 pages I did not create. Trying to find a balance between ppc and seo, don't want duplicate content slap.

Is the site map only for pages you want google to index or find, and or both? I have Platinum SEO, had many pages selected to noindex and nofollow too.

I suck at SEO, what a headeache.

 Can you try verifying your site without the "www" in the Webmaster Tools? This might help remove the 404 errors.
