What should I do with my site?

Hello fellow Affilorama members,

My name is Zack and I have a website that I registered called Tech Geek. I absolutely love computers and I have a cisco certification behind me from last year. This year I plan on getting my A+. I wanted to use tech geek for helping people out on how to repair there computers and more. I also wanted to start building a list. But I have no clue if it would fit my niche. I dont really have a specific niche. I just love computers. I am stomped. I don't know if I should continue with the website or just start fresh. I was working on it last night. I have put my about page, contact page, and privacy policy page. But thats about it. I don't really know if its a evergreen niche/market I should go into. I work at sonic as a carhop. I do have money to invest into domain names, hosting, and a auto responder. I need help!

I also love games. So would the entertainment niche be good for me to look into to find a more targeted micro-niche?

HI Zack, Your initial idea sounds like a good one. There are plenty of people that need a helping hand with tech support that they could do at home and even when deciding when they should call a pro.

Set the site up as an info blog and sit down to brainstorm about topics you can easily write about or topics that you think would be popular. Then do your research to check competition, potential traffic and keywords. Always try to improve on what the competitors are doing or create a different twist. Choose products and brands that would complement your articles or that you could recommend to solve the problem. Make sure you are recommending things you would be proud to recommend to a friend. Then sign up for those affiliate programs, so you can get some compensation for helping them sell their products or services.

Don't forget to put your disclaimer on the site and clearly mention that you may be compensated for any purchases made when a visitor clicks a link on your site and makes a purchase. Also state whether the compensation plays a role in what products or services you recommend. I always choose the products and services first then see if I can get compensation or make sure I do not recommend things only based on the compensation, so that I can state that the payment does not play a role in my recommendations. The disclaimer will keep you in compliance with federal regulations.

Finally look around and draw inspiration from other websites, affiliate and brand name sites alike.

Hey Zack,

Maybe you can get some ideas from my "Windows Wisdom" blog for Microsoft Windows users. I'm a long-time Windows PC consultant and trouble-shooter - so sounds similar to your idea. It's a standard WordPress blog based on the StudioPress "Genesis" framework and the "Balance" child theme. It has affiliate links (which have not earned much, but then I've been busy with lots of other projects and have not marketed it enough):

Hope this helps...

Hi Zach,

One thing: It is good that you have a niche that you know you can do well in terms of sharing knowledge and advise. So yes, I recommend that you continue with your website.

And don't start thinking whether the niche you've chosen is evergreen or not. Instead do more research about the market and perhaps you can also search for related websites to get ideas on what else you can add to your own site.

I hope that helps!

Hi Zack,

There are actually a lot of ways to monetize a website. You can do ads (text or banner ads), include adwords, promote affiliate products, and so on. You may also offer your own services online.

I also suggest that you try to research your niche in terms of income generation. You can find a lot of resources online.

I hope that helps.

All the best!

I found a lot of physical products I could promote from Commission Junction, Google Affiliate, and Amazon. That relates to my website. I found some guides on clickbank. I know I have to do some background research. If you don't mind looking at my website and tell me if I am doing it right:) or what you think of it!

Hi d.halvatzis,

Congrats for putting up your first site! :)

As for my feedback:

In your homepage, I suggest you cut down the content as the page goes a long way down. You may post or transfer some of these content to your inner pages. I suggest you create categories with relevant keywords in them. You can post some of your homepage content to these pages.

I think your mailing list section is quite off. It is too small and tends to blend in the background. Perhaps you can make it bigger and maybe enclosed this one in a box so it appears to be in a separate section.

You may also want to add a header. Header can be useful in telling what your site is and this also adds aesthetics to your site.

I see that you have not optimize your pages yet. It is good that you also start optimizing your page (on-page SEO). Like for example, you may want to replace the Other Articles (at the menu option) with something that is keyword rich like Weight Loss Tips or More Health Advice. Interlinking your pages through keywords (in anchor text) is also important.

Lastly, try to add more images within your content. :)

I hope that helps.

Hi Zack!

Thanks for sharing your website. I have taken a look at it and see that you are just starting to build the pages :)

If you do not have any ideas yet on how to start your website, I suggest you go to our Free Lessons and start reading how you can build a website, add content, do keyword research, and so on. The lessons there would be very helpful for you and you'll surely get ideas on what to do.

And also, nope I do not have any site yet but I am marketing websites so I pretty much know something about making money online :)

I hope that helps!

Hi williammorihachi,

I am not quite sure I get what you meant but you said you have this video sharing site- chinasoftkit.com (I tried opening this but this does not load) and you wanted to somehow promote your expertise in computers through this site am I correct?

If this is what you plan, perhaps you should direct the video sharing site to a website that promotes your services. I suggest you take a look at more sites that comes close to your idea so you will have something to look at and start on.

As for your questions:

1. How can I manage this website with experties or technician?
- Do you mean hiring someone to manage your website? If so, you may look at some freelancing sites like Odesk and Elance for this job.

2. Show I pay share interest to them or monthly salary?
- It is safe and less complicated that you pay for the job, either monthly salary or payment per task.

I hope that helps.
