Please compare ebook covers

Hi All,

Starting a new thread for comments as I try to improve my ebook cover and site. Sorry, but the old thread dropped off this page.

Current ebook Cover:

New Attempt:

What say you?
New attempt is better? Worse? Same?

Thanks folks - much appreciated...

Personally, my hunch is that the blue one will convert better since I recall reading somewhere many years ago, that blue is the color of trust and loyalty.

I would suggest doing a split test though to find out for certain. You can use tools like Visual Website Optimizer (not free, but recommended) for this or Google Website Optimizer (free).

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Clayton - good idea.

I assume you mean an A/B split test on the sales page showing the cover. Would also be easy to change the background to blue on the new one so the text was the only thing being compared.

Cheers!

Another opinion?

Here is the current compared to a blue version of the new text layout:

Current (old text):

New blue (new text):

New not blue (new text):

Thanks for helping with my decision folks!

I still like the first (original) one. The text on the second cover seemed too large. I know you want to make your text stand out, but I think you over exaggerated here. You made your text too large that the top look crowded.

Thanks All - looks to me like the best choice is the blue background of the middle example, but with the much more punchy text of the bottom one - but not crowded toward the top like the middle example.

I should explain that these 300px wide images are the middle size I need. The ebook cover itself is 450px wide. But I'll most likely need some even smaller than 300px wide - so the text readability is critical. I just don't think the "Current version" is readable enough. And that's in spite of hating to wrap the text to make it bigger.

But the way these things usually go, I'll be trying new versions every few weeks or months for a long time.

Thanks for all the help!

Okay, Jim... Here's my assement. I think I like the blue themed one best, but here what I like about each of them:

In the first one, the text is up above the climbers and is not covering them up.

I think I like the colors in the second one best.

In the third, I do like the slight separation between the text lines.

Here's my suggestion, then. I agree that the larger text does look nicer and more readable, but perhaps you can keep the main title bigger than in the first one but just small enough it still fits on one line. Then have the tag line scaled to fit on 2. A slight bit of separation between the two, but up high enough they don't overlap the climbers. I think that if you can keep the main title on one line and the tag line to two, you can scale them up just a little bit and push them up toward the top like in the second one but up above the climbers like in the top.

I hope that makes sense, since I've been up over 36 hours (except a brief nap), but if not, maybe I can clarify later.

Well, I didn't intend to be up all night last night and I'm up late tonight cheering on those who are finishing up Script Frenzy, a "contest" where the participants try to write a 100 page script in 30 days. It's the screenplay/script companion event to NaNoWriMo.

But that's a story for another thread ;)

Thanks for your thoughtful suggestions Grady (up late myself). Your meaning is clear.

Trouble is I already tried all those things on my way to arriving at the middle example. None of those ideas worked. "Great minds thinking alike?"

Cheers!

Despite the lack of sleep, you do make great sense! And I agree! :) Am eager to see these changes soon.

Have a good everyone!

Well that's weird... Can't give feedback because I'm not seeing any of the pictures... just the icon that says a picture should be there, but no picture. And I tried refreshing several times. I'll check again later.
