Mostly it's just a deterrent. You can create an email account that you send your emails from, but which you don't actually use for regular correspondence, and which doesn't forward to your main email address. The other thing you can do is send from your usual account, but use "firstname.lastname@example.org" as the "reply to" address. If that account doesn't exist, when people try to reply to the email their email will get bounced back to them.
But yeah, you'll still find that people reply sometimes.
