Hi Affiliatee,

Well, good luck on your new venture!

There are many niches that can be lucrative, but the real need is for creative, original content and ideas to promote your niche once you decide. Shop around.

And, you don't have to stick to one product or service, however it's a good idea to have niches that integrate well. First look at your target market. You really have to analyze and know your customer to find out what they need and what they are willing to pay...and where to find them.

Wordpress is a great place to start. Go free at first and upgrade as your business grows. Spend as much time as you can reading and watching tutorials to really know your trade. You are off to a good start in doing the research up front.

All the Best!

Thanks Brad. The free version of wordpress does not include SEO and meta desciptions, wont that affect my search ranking? I have seen very few wordpress.com blogs on google's first page. how can i increase my search ranking with a free blog.

How is it going for you? Are you doing well?

Hi, WordPress.com/.org is pretty SEO friendly right outta the box, things like title and description tags, to social media and content presentation etc.

It's only when you want to get super geeky with SEO that you would need an SEO plugin.

IMHO though, SEM these days has very little to do with coding (you know, all the under the hood stuff, i.e. On-Page SEO), and more to do with Inbound Marketing. (But making sure you can be indexed is still very important!)

One reason why you may not have seen free WP sites in google is that 'free' sites don't get taken seriously by their owners, not as much as websites/businesses that one would need to pay hosting and development for, i.e., people will put a lot more effort into something when they have invested money into it, things like marketing and content creation.

Hope this helps!

Hi Affiliatee,

If you're running low on niche ideas, or don't know where to start, then you can check out the Niche of the Week posts in the Affilorama Blog. The give niche ideas and include tips on keyword research and link building.

I would suggest you host your site and register a domain for it instead of using free Wordpress or Blogger sites. These sites are easy to set up and cost nothing but you are limited on what you can promote on their site. For example, Wordpress only allows their own ads on Wordpress.org sites.

You'll also have more freedom in choosing a domain name, and it looks much and better and credible: affiliatemarketing101.com VS affiliatemarketing101.wordpress.com

Hope that helps. Have a good day!
