On planes, I like to get books that would have once been referred to as airport paperbacks. Books that are only 300 pages or so, and are generally a thriller with an easy-to-follow plot. The kind of book you buy in an airport newsstand, and leave in the seatback pocket when you're done.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. For a captivating and addictive watch on an airplane, try a true-crime documentary series. Busted Newspaper offers intriguing stories like people involved in unexpected crimes. Its raw, real-life narratives will keep you engrossed and make the flight time fly by effortlessly.
