making money

Hi guys, just wanted to know if anyone is making any money, no I don't mean just a little bit of extra to pay bills but making a living at this.

I have been doing this for a while now and unless i pay for ads I don't get much traffic and more often then not by the time I pay for the ads and the sales i make I am breaking even. the sites that I am getting free traffic and a good amount of visits I hardly ever sell anything. I don't plan on stopping I just have to figure out what to do to get sales without going broke.

Hope you are building an email list. If you take care of them right, you'll be surprised how much money you can earn from a tiny list.

Hi mark I understand your pain been there done it. Checked your website very well layed out. One thing I noticed is there does not seem to be any social media on your site. This is very importent to list build. I am on all the top ones and you need to connect with people and they will join your list. Eg I am on pinterest and I get a lot of people signing up to my lists through this media. Unfortunatly these days having a please sign up on a website is not enough. You need to get social these days to make money

I haven't done any of those yet for a couple, One I am not on any of them so I can't put up an icon sending people to where I am not. I haven't done any of them because I know it is going to take weeks to figure out how to use them correctly and I just haven't had the time to do that.

it is important to link your website in social media. And how many visitors per day in your website? and how do you convert your traffic in mailing list?

I've all your keywords and this is the only keywords that are ranked.

Keyword Google Yahoo Bing
italian vacation 50 27 75
italian vacation - 53 -
italian travel 5 - -
italy travel 50 - -
italy vacation 46 77 -

it is important to give some freebies if they will sign up with your optin form so you can convert your traffic into list.

Hate to be harsh here but if you cant make time to get social(remembering you can sign up to twitter and facebook in ten minutes) then please do not complain. Google has stated the importence of social media everyone on here states the importence of social media your vidtors expect to see social media on your sites to share or comment on. Make time if you want to succeed.

I have been making money with Ticket Network promoting event tickets.

Long tail key words are born everyday that I can get on the first page with free classifieds.

You can use Google translator to place ads in Spanish and you will find no competition.:)

Hi Mark,

Is the site you are talking about the travel site you had reviewed in this forum before? If this is the same site, I suggest you focus on how to get people/visitors sign-up to your subscription. And like everyone else here suggested, try to market yourself in social media sites to get direct visits.

Also, if it is a travel site, perhaps providing visitors reviews and travel discount coupons will help build traffic, gain you more subscribers, and get you more sales.

I understand what everyone is saying and I think it is always funny when people say to give something away but if I don't have anything to give how do I give it. I can't give a discount coupon where would I get them, the only place that can give a discount or something like that is the companies I am promoting. I could put together a free guide based on the information that is on my site but if after a couple months I could only get 1 person to opt in to my news letter why would giving a guide do any better. As far as social media I know everyone says I need to be connected but everyone seems to act like you can sell without it but what did everyone do before social media to sell it's not like they have been around for ever and there are people out there who made a lot of money long before they came around, sure I think they are important these days but they aren't the be all end all and the money I have made so far has been without them.

A good way to make an opt-in bribe is to give a list of 7 common mistakes people make about the topic.

This is effective because it helps people see that they are doing things improperly and it sets the stage for recommending the proper way to do things later.

This opt-in bribe doesn't have to be super detailed either. Often times people don't want tons of information. They just want to know what the mistakes are. I know a guy who runs a 7-figure business and his opt-in bribe is a one page pdf.

As far as traffic, I think you could benefit from some fast results before you invest a lot of time and energy in long-term things like SEO or social media. Start by writing some guest posts or buy some PPC ads. Send them to a squeeze page and start building that list. Just set a budget like $100 or whatever won't hurt you too much if you lose.

The important thing is to build the list and assign a value per opt-in to it. If you know that a lead is worth $3 for example, you can spend up to $2.99 per lead and still pull a profit. From there it's a pure numbers game.

But that won't happen unless you know the value of a lead first.

Hope this helps.

It's all about lists now, your facebook friends lists, twitter followers lists, retargeting lists, and most important of all your e-mail lists, e-mail buyers lists, e-mail prospects list, e-mail lists for that this and the other lol.

If you can't build a list, (of whatever kind) even with a fair amount of traffic, then your Landing Page Optimization is not good enough, get good at LPO and you can then afford to buy whatever sort of traffic you want because you will know with absolute certainty that X amount of visitors = X amount of sales.

I agree with Clayton, right now you don't know your sites/LPs Earnings Per Subscriber Per Month, i.e., how much a subscriber/lead/visitor etc., is worth to you, because you can't get them to convert to even begin formulating numbers.

There are many 'conversions' to get good at, actually a 'sale' is just a sequence of 'micro conversions', for instance let's say you're running PPC ads, the first 'conversion' is to get that click, the next conversion is to get them to read a headline, then read the subhead, read the bullets, be impressed with the imagery, feel trusting/safe, etc. etc., finally you want them to 'convert' to entering a name and e-mail and clicking subscribe, (e-mail only? free bonus? What Does Your Audience WANT/NEED?).

So you converted someone into an e-mail subscriber, now you need to convert that person into a Buyer with a series of e-mail 'micro conversions', conversion one is to get them to open the e-mail (time of day sent + subject lines), get them to read the e-mail (copywriting), get them to click through to an offer (irresistible offer) and etc.

I think Conversion Optimization is your next skill you should focus on (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv_sh8-P3Tw), in my humble opinion. It is actually kind of fun to test and try and discover what works and what doesn't, you can get creative with it, staying close to the fundamentals of course.

I know there are a lot of sites on the internet that will use a squeeze page but I have never seen one an a travel site or blog and I have looked at at least 500 of the to see what others have done and how there sites look. I am not sure it is a good idea for my site, most of the time when I am on a site that has a squeeze page it makes me feel like they are being pushy and that isn't something I think I should do with someone that is planning on spending 3 to 5 grand. I am not even sure if my web editor offers something like that.

Don't get too caught up on what type of page to optimize, because the concepts learned from conversion optimization apply to any page you can create including a content site.

Think of it this way, you don't optimize a page, you optimize a frame of mind.

The visitor is asking:

-Where am I?
-What can I do here?
-Why should I do it?

Here's another vid on homepage optimization:
