internal linking

When internal linking, is it okay to link to a page from that same page or would it be better to link from a different page on my site?

I do not really see a need to link to the same page from the same page, since your site visitor would already have discovered that page. Or maybe I did not understand your question correctly?

Hey bud,
Either way is fine it doesn't really matter. If you are going to link to the same page you're already on, it's best to put it somewhere at the bottom, which is what I do. It's not there to help the visitor because they're already on the page, rather it's for your SEO purposes.
Usually, if you just have a menu on the side with all the links in the website, that's a form of internal linking, and so you wouldn't have to write it again on the page.
Hope I helped.
Cheers

Yeah mate, just the side bar menu. So look at Mark Ling's www.wowblackbook.com website. It has the menu side bar visible on all pages in the website. That itself acts as a form of internal linking.

The only reason I see to do this is if you want to link to the same page but jump to different parts of the page, for example.. Top, Middle, Bottom.
Otherwise Google spider will just go around in circles and not give any SEO weight to the link.

Hey Troy,
It was recommended in one of Mark Ling's courses, pretty sure AB. Also Matt Carter recommends it. I think it's to help Google spider through your site and find ALL your pages? That is, the side bar menu showing all the pages, not the self link to the same page in the article. The self link has no effect.
Cheers,
Ashton

Hi Ashton,
Yeah I meant the same page link within the content area.

I always link back to the home page as much as possible, if you use the right anchor text you can boost your home page rankings that way
