Hi unit. Aw stats counts every hit to your site as a unique visitor. Google analytics has algorythms that filter out automatic search querries and bots. A lot of the hits you are seeing in the server logs are probably spiders from various serch engines, spam bots, automated querries from web programs, etc. Also, AW stats counts each page as a visit, where as Google looks at each unique visitor and tracks where they go on your site.
Aw stats will also look at all pages, so they will see anything that you do. If you are using wordpress, you can see 100-200 "unique querries" just from you logging in and making a single post. Google Analytics is just looking at your public pages.
By far, google analytics is much more accurate than looking at AW stats.
