Can I earn by just using a list without a website?

Instead of building yet another website on making money online I wanted to see if I could make a site earn for me by just having a landing page, building a list and sending out a newsletter twice a week.

I once met someone who only made his money that way - he had no blogs, no sites, just a sign up page and a large list but that was a few years ago and things have changed.

Do you think there is any point in trying something like that? I have a site up for mothers because mommy bloggers are huge but I also want to talk about affiliate marketing. My aim is not to teach but to pass them on to the experts and promote 3 membership sites in different areas (this one being one of them of course!) and clickbank products.

Is it just too simple to have just a landing page?

I am also wondering how I will optimize it without the additional help of articles. The site is at http://www.mothersbelongathome.com

The golden rule of research is to check what the market want and I have researched mothers looking for online related work but I think optimizing it for full effect is what I am more concerned about.

Appreciate any views /suggestions. I am happy to talk about the niche/site - I don't feel the need to hide it so if you want to see the landing page

It's not too simple to have only a landing page in my opinion. But you'll miss out on the "conversation" with your audience without a blog IMHO. You can use a landing page linked to a blog to continue conversations and get your email audience involved etc...

I understand that might sound basic, but I hope that helps ;)

Thanks for the reply Joesph and welcome to Affilorama :-)
I thought about that and I do have a few blogs I can link blog posts too inside the newsletter so it won't necessarily be an issue.
I think I was trying to create that "closed club" kind of buzz where only people on the list get to know the good stuff rather than sharing it on my blog!
I appreciate your view

In that case...a "Private List" with a dedicated landing page would be a good theme to build it on :)

Create some marketing channels where "only Private List subscribers" gain access to information etc... almost like a list-based membership.

You might even charge a fee to get on the list (perhaps with a Private, "you only get this bonus here" type of download or other bonus item).

Combining a list with a site can offer you a powerful strategy since it reduces your reliance on organic or paid traffic, and you worry less about your site dropping in the SERPs.

By keeping members plied with useful information via the list and constantly directing attention back to your site with relevant content, you can really boost your sales.

I would recommend that if you do start a list, try and learn as much as you can about your new subscribers. A segmented list is a much greater asset than just a name and email address!

Okay, that sorts that out in my mind. I guess I was trying to shorten the process :-)
I live the idea of a private list so will stick with that and direct them to my blog! Its nice to get that sorted so quickly - thanks guys
