Backlinks Spamming

Hi Everybody

I am having a problem with one of my websites. I can only call it Backlinks Spamming. In 2 weeks the links have grown from about 150 to 550 then 1000+, and most of them (according to Yahoo) are from sites totally unconnected with my site niche (travel). I am concerned that the search engines will trash my site because it looks as if I have bought all these links from a link farm.

Is there any way I can delete these links and stop them happening again?

Matt Cutts, the head of the Google Web Spam team recently covered this in a video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleWebma ... 4dAWb5jUws

A lot of the time those links will quickly devalue anyway (if they ever had any value) - so grin and bare it and concentrate on building high quality backlinks from relevant sources.

James, that link was very helpful - thanks.

BTW, that guy is a very friendly face to the "Big Satan" (Google). If he ever lost his job at Google, he could probably join the Wiggles!

I was looking at some products on amazon , and put them in favorite on firefox, i didn't buy them but now all i have in my email box are the same products being send to me to buy them .
Is this being send by amazon itself or some affiliate spammers ?

Hi etfimt,

I think those are affiliate spammers. Are you sure you did not enter your email address anywhere or post it online somewhere? Spambots crawl the web looking for email addresses to spam. You might also want to run your anti-virus and check if you have some adware/malware.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!
