Hi Glenn, it really depends on what sort of traffic you're sending, what they're expecting to see, which page you're sending it to, etc.
There's no such thing as an overall conversion rate for a product. There are far too many variables.
40 visitors is not a lot, also. If you haven't seen any sales after sending 500 visitors, then I would start to look at the quality of your traffic and the page you're sending them to.
