Affiliate Commissions Given to Someone Else...
I know that it's been awhile since I've been here on the forums but wondered if I could get some insight into something that happened to me today.
A few months ago I sold a well known product from a well known company (not going to name names here), and have been receiving the recurring commissions on that product for the past three months. (These are not small commissions either they are rather substantial).
When I logged into this other companies back end affiliate area I noticed that there wasn't an update on the commission. So I wondered if maybe there was a problem (there weren't any refunds either). I thought that maybe the purchaser's credit card didn't go through.
Instead, I received the response from the affiliate manager that the person who had purchased the product had actually written into the company and stated that they had wanted the commissions to "go to someone else" and so this company instead took the commissions that I would have received from here and into the future and instead gave it to this "other" affiliate stating "We do every attempt to abide by the customers intentions".
Note that I had to actually write in and ask what was happening, no one informed me of it.
Before I send off some kind of rant to them (because I am extremely infuriated at this point as you might imagine), I wanted to get some insights from others; I know that you can't give legal advice but was looking for some ways on which to handle this.
I didn't realize that commissions could be just "handed over" to someone else. I have searched through their legal agreements and cannot locate ANYWHERE that states they can do this.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
