CURRENTLY TRAVELLING AROUND THE U.S AND NOT ANSWERING PRIVATE MESSAGES. PLEASE DIRECT QUESTIONS TO SUPPORT@AFFILORAMA.COM
Hi! Thanks for checking out my profile!
A little bit about me... I like long walks on the beach, the smell of swimming pool water splashed on hot concrete, pie, not gnomes, and ridiculous trousers of any kind.
I have been working with/for/around Mark Ling for about seven years. Prior to that I studied psychology and graphic design, and taught myself web design using Notepad and a whole lot of trial and error. I have also been known to write some things and nag a whole lot when things aren't as cool as they should be.
I know a lot about web design, HTML, CSS, and why your website is behaving strangely in Internet Explorer or Firefox. If you ask me about any of these things I will tell you in tremendous detail.
But that doesn't mean I'm not, like, so cool.
$2000/month! Yeah!
Thailand! Yeah!
If you can keep that coming while you're away, that's a good scene.
Off-topic: If you're looking for a nice (quiet, romanticish) island to hang out on, check out the Ting Rai Bay Resort on Koh Phu. A really nice place to stay in Bangkok is "Cozy Bangkok Place" near the train station. Eat the street food everywhere, it's awesome. Banana pancakes especially.
Awesome work!

If you're digging the "principle of the matter" then by all means, go chasing.
But if it's taking you hours to chase, you're probably better off just ignoring it. Or if they've kicked your site into the supplementary results because their version of your article got indexed first, just reword your article to be unique.
You shouldn't have to, but it'll be faster than trying to get other people to fix it.
I think this is actually a form of procrastination... at the end of the day, it's probably not making a very big difference to your business, and fixing it isn't going to earn you any more money.
So either admit that it's a personal grudge (hey, that's fine!) or fix it quickly and move on. You're not going to be discouraging anyone by going through channels to get them.

Yup, it's all about AffiloJetpack over here at the moment.
My dreams are plagued by bulging biceps, blue tights, jaunty fonts and PowerThirst at the moment.
We're thinking of doing something like this for the sales copy, what do you think?

No, they're still there. Because they're in beta we haven't linked to them directly from the tools area. You have to use the links I've given you.

Are you sure it's wordpress? If you right-click on the image and go "view image" or whatever (just to get the image loading in your browser out of wordpress) does it still not work?
If you upload the image to your site using an FTP program and then view it in your browser (type the address in, avoiding wordpress altogether) does it work?
If it works in the second case, but not in the first case, then wordpress is doing some weird stuff when you use their uploader.
If it doesn't work in either case, then it's not wordpress ;)

Yup, we know :)
I really wish people wouldn't leap to conclusions like that.
To keep you guys in the loop (even though all the gossip is going down elsewhere) we've now updated the user agreement in Traffic Travis to be more explicit to hopefully quell the fears of the Tinfoil Hat Brigade :)
Good news is that people on the warrior forum now think we're rockstars for doing so.
Party on, Garth!

P.S: No frosts here just yet, Chris. It has to stop raining first ;) Tuesday, June 1st, 2010
Clayton: Currently in Seattle. Good to see the sun has come out today! I'm off hunting a Cuban sandwich this afternoon (apparently). Commented on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
(80 + 20 + 3) x 5 = the numbers you need to enter into the computer in the hatch to stop the island exploding?
Are we going to have to wait six seasons to not get the answer, Kim? ;)

Just a little note for anyone who thinks we've left poor Kim out in the cold all this time:
Aside from earning her a little money for that elusive winter wardrobe, this exercise was designed to teach her what our members (you guys) go through so she can better understand and help you later on.
We could have given her the quick and easy path, but where's the learning in that? She certainly wouldn't be writing blog posts like this if she'd had it easy.
This stuff *is* tough and time consuming, but we're working on an easier way. We've got a product called AffiloJetpack coming out in July which should solve a lot of these problems.
We had to get Kim doing it the hard way so she can fully appreciate the easy way when it comes :)

"This Affilorama group are good, even though they do come from down under.. and proves to me that the people from new zealand have come a long way since I was in NewZealand in the 1970s.. You should be proud"
It's all since we got electricity in the 80s. Everything's been on the up and up since then.

From a web designer's perspective, it pays to have a few different browsers at your disposal to keep track of how your website looks to the people in your market. They're not all on the same page quite yet. On this little laptop I have Firefox, IE7 and Chrome going, and this is just for travel ;) At the very least you should be checking Firefox and IE7 (or 8, but I'd prefer 7 since 8 is probably sitting closer to Firefox these days.) Design using Firefox. Then check that it's not completely mucked up in IE.
It's very easy to get all browser-snobby, but if a large proportion of your visitors are using a particular browser then you need to make sure your site is usable. Although IE6 is an exception. We're tired of IE6.
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp is a useful site for keeping tabs on the rough proportions. (Just be aware that these stats come from their own visitors, which is probably going to be more heavily skewed towards web professionals, meaning that the usage of "relic" browsers in reality is probably higher than is reported there.) You can also check your own stats using whatever analytics package you're using on your site.
Don't use this as an excuse for hanging onto IE6 though. Do the world a favour and upgrade!

I think you've got more of a chance of blowing up the office printer than the kettle. Whatever you do, don't touch the air-con. I have enough battles with Nick over that one, without another person joining in! Commented on Monday, February 9th, 2009
