How Do I Offer a Free Report on My Site

I have been using the Blueprint plan and feel I am ready to add a free download report to my site but I can't figure out how to do that. I really need some step by step stuff.

I have a free trial with GetResponse but for me, their stuff is hard to understand. I am considering trying Aweber but I am afraid to put money into it and not understand how to do this.

I want to build my email list. I have my page set up with the information and the signup form. I also have my free report, ready to go with my links embedded. But all the instructions I see is for newsletters. I'm not ready for that, just the free report.

I asked a tech guy at GetRepsonse and all he told me is set up an autorepsonder and I could create a download link to my files I have uploaded there. He told me to look in the tutorials. However, with being new, I have no idea what I'm looking for so that was no help at all.

Sorry this is so long but I really want to do this. I am wondering if Aweber is any better and if I can find instructions with them for doing this.

Get a free account at http://www.tinyletter.com
It's a free newsletter service. When people subscribe to your newsletter (you can put a subscribe box on your website, tinyletter provides the codes) you can send a welcome email to your subscribers automatically. Include the link to your freebie in there. Simple. And tinyletter is totally free. Allows 5000 subscribers. Awesome for beginners.

Hi Nancy,

I have no experience with get response but with aweber and it is very easy to set up.

When you create a sign up form you have the option to send the visitors, after they opt in, to a "thank you" page which would be something like yoursite.com/confirm. You just need to paste the URL in a custom field within aweber.

That is the first step you want to make.

The next step is creating a page on your website where the download link for the ebook appears. Thats in aweber the "already subscribed" URL. When the subscriber clicks on the link they were sent by email to confirm the subscription, they will be forwarded directly to the ebook download page.

I assume that get response has the same functions as aweber.

Hope that helped

Thanks Sebastian. I think I will switch to Aweber. I haven't been able to figure out Getresponse.

This is what I needed to know...appreciate the information.

Hi Nancy,

As Sebastian has mentioned you need to set up a Thank You page which is a confirmation page thanking users for signing up and letting them know they will be receiving the download link in their email. The download link is a link on your site where users can download the free report. You can view the Aweber tutorial videos at http://www.aweber.com/videos.htm for more information.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Adding a bit to Cecille's excellent response:

The reason you want to send an email with a link to your freebie (which is stored or linked to from a page on your site) in your first email to a new recipient, is that it means the person who signed up will be visiting your site again. This helps generate traffic and Google likes the fact that someone is returning to your site.

It's also a good idea to link to the freebie item again in any 2nd email you send - in case someone forgot to get it after the first email.

This gets a bit complex, but when I give away an ebook, white paper or such as a signup bonus - I'm always afraid someone will steal it and start selling it as their own product or such. Therefore, I use a product called "LinkLok" to protect the downloads of my freebies - just as I do to protect the downloads of my paid information products. LinkLok has versions for protecting a URL or for protecting a ClickBank download.

Hope this helps...

Nancy you are doing great ! Keep up the good work your almost there. AWeber anf get response are almost the same so whichever one you are with stick with it.

Aweber gives you a free trial for $1 anyway.

What do you need help with putting your form on your site?
They are calling a newsletter the same thing as a auto responder. It's the same thing. When someone signs up to your free report you have to have your auto responder set up on message 1 or your Thank you page to send them the download page.

Here are some videos that will help you ! It shows Aweber but they are all very similar

Do you try to use the free webmaster tool of Google? You can register a free account according to the insutructions, then you add the character string provided by Google on your website, then you can use it.
