I would suggest that you start with the end result in mind FIRST. What are you trying to achieve with your website?
Do you want to showcase your hobby?
Make money with it?
Be a pro in web design?
After that you can then decide to either build an ie html website or use, as suggest above, a system like wordpress.
This first step is crucial, because building a professional looking html website customers and searchengines alike would love requires, in my humble opinion, years to master if you are not a coding wizard with sharp eyes for design aspects.
Or on the other hand, people like me, and I guess most members here, use wordpress to build and customize websites. Our goal is mostly to make money online by providing unique, high value SEO optimized content. This alone usually requires a lot of ressources like time and money since we must also promote these wordpress-based sites using SEO,PPC and so on.
I hope this information is helpful.

Study wordpress, get a theme from http://themeforest.net, and have your site up in a week.

Thanks for sharing that post! :)
I personally prefer Wordpress over other other blogging platforms. You can choose from the free themes and customize it however you want the site to appear. It's free and open source so there are plenty of plugins you can use that can help you with SEO.
Dreamweaver is a great web design application but it can be expensive, and it will take time for you to learn it. Especially if you do not have any HTML knowledge. If you want a web design software then try XSitePro or Artisteer.

You might want to check if you have Wordpress installed correctly. Wordpress also offers great support through their Help page

As to the theme, you should be able to install a theme if you are using the ".org" code, which is code you install on a site where you pay for hosting.
If you are trying to use the ".com" with the "free" hosting, consider paying for the hosting The "free" site isn't intended for "commercial" purposes and if they find you are using it for that, they could shut you down. You have more freedom with the paid hosting. It only costs $10/year for domain registration and at Hostgator, for $10/month, you can get hosting where you can run multiple sites from. Should be enough to get you started.

C:\Users\My\AppData\Local\Temp\affilotheme.v3.2-2.zip could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.
if I could just figure out how to do this I would....

If you continue to have problems, can you give us temporary access to your WP admin area so that we could install this for you? If so, please send us your site URL and the temporary login details.
You may create a temporary administrator user in the 'Users' menu of your WordPress site. From your dashboard, go to users on the left hand side. From there you can add a new user, and set the status to admin. then once the staff is done, you can delete the user or change the password.
Please PM me or send the details through our contact form at out support page.

Do you have Winzip or a similar application installed in your computer? Affilotheme comes in a zipped file and you would need to upload this as a zipped file too so you need that application. If you do not have Winzip or unable to install in, you can try 7zip.
Hope that helps. If you are still unable to download and install the theme, then please send us an email through support page with your login information.
Have a good day!

What you need to do is to upload the extracted theme files into the public_html/wp-content/themes folder. We have already uploaded this for you. You should now be able to see the Affilotheme in the themes list.

I'm trying to redesign 2 review sites and one is for reviewing deal-of-the-day sites and another is for reviewing businesses in Australia. I need help on what homepage layouts and features I should include or consider in redesigning the homepages and the overall functionality it should have to suffice their purpose of being review sites. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What platform are you using? If you are using Blogger or Wordpress, you can chose from any of the free templates they have. If none there fit your style or theme, then you can buy "Premium" themes. I prefer magazine-style templates/layouts for review sites, but again, this all depends on how you want to present your site and content.
Hope that helps. Have a good day!
