Hi everyone
Just starting on Affiloblueprint and have a question from one of the webinars that Mark did.
I may want to write a website that has articles based on Mark's recommendation of having, say 'learn guitar in san diego', 'learn guitar in california', etc. or some similar subject.
However, building the site in wordpress, I'm going to end up with endless links down the left hand side, most of which will be of no interest to people outside that area.
Is the solution to hide the links as it's going to be pretty ugly with 100 links down the left-hand margin!
Any ideas?
Thanks
Martin

You could put all your SEO location pages into their own category, then exclude that category from the wordpress loop. I did a tut on doing this here http://berkhamsted-web-design.co.uk/201 ... ress-loop/.
You may have to lay around with it a bit but your best bet is to consult the Wordpress Codex for specific code/examples

Thanks for the tip - also just found there's a feature in the Affiloblueprint theme that allows you to exclude pages - duh!

It's not good to have more than 100 links on a web page. Google might choose not to follow or to index all those links. They might consider your links as spammy so we advise you to limit the links if possible.
If you want to see the categories on your sidebar, you will need to select "Silo" for "Sidebar List Type" on the Sidebar tab of the AffiloTheme options. You can set up categories and assign your posts to your categories.

Michellerana, I think you are limited to only 2 categories - typically Reviews and Articles - but I would really like to be able to have more. I'm using Affilotheme 3.2. Any way to do that?

Hey Kieren, in the affilo theme, there are two options. You can choose the split option, which allows you to set up 2 categories, such as you mentioned. the other option is called the silo option, which allows you to set up multiple categories and asign each article to a category. When you select that option, it limits the sidebar links to your main category pages and the articles assigned to that category.

Thanks, James, I'll try your silo tip. I think that, once a site has more than about 25 pages, the 2-category option gets a bit messy. Also, if you tend to have long titles for each article/page these make the sidebar links unattractive.

Further to James' silo option, I have now assigned all posts to new categories - there are now 8 (Reviews plus 7 others). No posts are categorized as Articles, but now each webpage shows: Home (a static page); Articles; and Reviews. If you select the Articles link you go to a page that has 'Articles' as its title but no content, and the sidebar then lists the 'lost' 7 categories!
It seems that I can silo, but only within the previous 2 Split categories, which makes the whole site more or less unusable. Any ideas, anyone?
My apologies for varying this thread but it is related to the previous few posts.

I've just run into the same problem. If you have too many artilces/posts they clutter up your sidebar. If you pick "silo" as a sidebar display option, then one of the categories (the one with the latest post) shows the posts of the category and the other categories don't show any posts. The last option, split, only shows two categories and hides all the others.
None of the these options are feasible. Someone (with some coding skill) needs to work a suitable option. The AffiloTheme just looks ugly in this state.
(My sites look amateurish enough, this doesn't help.)
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi,
You could just install a custom menu plugin and put that in your sidebar, maybe an accordion type menu?
