Hi, I'm looking in to buying one of the new adobe packages. I've been trying to figure out the difference between the web premium package and the design premium package, or which one is better for me I guess. I see the design package comes with indesign, but not fireworks. The web package has fireworks and something else( I dont remember) but not indesign. I was talking to a guy the other day who was saying the guys his web development firm seemed to think indesign was essential. But I want to design web sites, so the the web package seems logical. Any insight or experience with the new cs3 stuff?
Thanks
Matt
Thanks
Matt

I only have dreamweaver and I get along fine. I wouldn't be able to use all the other software anyway. Personally, if I need something done in one of those programs, I'll just pay someone who knows what they're doing.
Are you just going to be putting pages together? Or are you going to be playing around with stuff in indesign and fireworks? I don't even know what indesign does... hehe.

Ughh I doubt you need InDesign for designing websites.... I NEVER use it and I do just fine..... InDesign is more for artsy type of projects... creating things etc.... If you want other software... just get photoshop and dreamweaver... it's all you need.

I thought InDesign was a Desktop Publishing app?-- It's Page Maker's replacement. Definitely not something you need IMO.
Like Adrian I think must haves, are a graphics editor like Photoshop or Gimp (free) and Dreamweaver or Evrsoft's FirstPage (free)... you can even build great sites by using Wordpress (free) exclusively all you need is a host with that 8)

Indesign is a desktop publishing software. The only reason I can see for getting that package is if you're wanting to create lots of flash-looking PDF documents (for whatever reason). But since you can create PDFs through lots of other programs (Open Office, Word) and since InDesign is such a steep learning curve, I wouldn't bother too much if I were you.
Fireworks is for streamlining web page production, but it assumes you're designing all your pages in a program like Illustrator or Photoshop first, and it's more for web graphic designers. My designers are a little perplexed as to what it actually does, so I reckon you're safe without it.
Grab a copy of Dreamweaver (remember you can get slightly older second-hand versions for much cheaper, and they do the same thing) and start getting your head around the Gimp or Photoshop (again, older version is fine) and you'll be good to go.
Regards,
Mark

Dear Affilobud Matthewjhan,
Get an older version of Dreamweaver cheap from ebay or Yahoo auctions it will save you a ton of money. You can always spend a little over $100.00 to get an up grade to the latest version.
I'm still using Dreamweaver 3 and it works great!
I'm cheap...what can I say?
God Bless & Flame on!!!

Hi!
I'm a web designer and I have been using Fireworks and Dreamweaver to build websites for many years. Fireworks and Dreamweaver is all you need to build a website. If you get the Web standard package you will also get Flash, otherwise you can buy them separately.
Check out my tutorials at:

There have not been many changes to the previous version of Dreamweaver and Fireworks - basically Adobe took over from Macromedia and they just integrated these products to work well with their other products like Photoshop etc.
Hope that helps!
:)
