Do H1 Tags need to be visible?

i have h1 tags on my site but i edited them to be really small and blend to my background so nobody can see them. can i leave them this way for SEOing?

H1 headings are the main headings on your website. Your headings should be big and bold and very obvious to your visitors.

but will it matter for seo/google to have it unseen? i don't need the visitor to see it cause its on my big banner

In terms of SEO, H1 should indicate your page's content. In theory, it's okay if your H1 is not visible as long as you have put your topic on the tag and you already have a heading on your page that your visitors could see.

There is a WP plugin to make your H1 and H2 tags invisible to the reader, but VISIBLE to Google. PM me PHMegacorp.
