Hi, I have another business that I'd like to build a website on, I've registered a domain name and get hosting from hostgator. I'd like to use wordpress to write my articles and for the website layout as I found it to be quite easy to use, however the free blog terms and services states that we could not advertised in the blog, unless we have our own hosting, and download wordpress from wordpress.org, which I found it's a bit complicated to use. Any suggestion as to some user-friendly website layout and editing platform?

Hostgator has an option for installing scripts. Please login to your hostgator control panel. I think they have fantastico available with them. You can install any of the blogging platform on your site with just one click using that.
