What is an Anchor Text?

I've tried reading the text of the SEO Competition Analysis lesson very carefully, I've searched google for Anchor text, but I can not for the life of me understand what it is. Also, in the video, át 02:32 she's referring to "SEO lessons". Did I miss something? Where can these SEO lessons be found? maybe the concept of "anchor text"is explained more comprehensively there? thanks!

 Anchor text is words that are hyperlinked. So for example you will see "click here" or "website" or "buy on amazon" and those words will have a link in them where you can just click and you are directed to the website. Anchor text is very important because it is one of the ways Google identifies what your site is about. Just try not to use the same anchor text over and over as you will get penalized for that.  The anchor tag is essentially a tag that you can attach to a word or a phrase (exactly like you would a normal internal or external link), except it brings readers down to a different section of the page as opposed to another webpage. You're essentially creating a unique URL within the same page when you use this tag.

 So anchor texts have nothing to do with backlinks? it's just links within your own site?

 The anchor text is the click able text that we see within the content of the website and once we click on it we will be directed to another page.
Search engines use the descriptive text in the anchor of a link in order to help determine the relevancy and topical nature of the page that it's linking to.
Importance of anchor text for SEO:
They will be given more related links on interest to visit and your bounce rate will go down.
Anchor text helps to improve the average time a reader spends on the site.
Within the website page, elements like the Meta title, the heading tags, the surrounding text and the anchor text are factors that are perceived as relevancy signals.
The anchor text should contain keywords that are related to our targeted search terms.

It is also known as the Link Label or Link Title. The blue, underlined anchor text is the most common as it is the web standard, although it is possible to change the color and underlining through html code. The words contained in the anchor text help determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engines such as Google or Yahoo and Bing.

 Make it simple, Anchor Text is just some words(keywords or sentence)that you could click, then you will be directed to another page. It is because there is link within the text which we can not see.
