Permalinks or URLs are important too, but not as important as backlinks in my opinion. You can place your target keywords in your URL. Here are some tips from Moz on URLs:

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Hey Richard,

It's best if you don't go too crazy with folders inside folders inside folders on your website.

A page like yoursite.com/page is going to find it easier to rank than a page like yoursite.com/articles/archives/page . The higher up a page is in the site architecture, the more it benefits from the domain authority.

... but ...

Those extra folders *can* be a good way of sneaking some keywords into the URL.

Our recommendation would be no more than two folders (yoursite.com/folder/folder/page) if you can help it.

You can better name it url structure of any website. We can use architecture when we are making a plan for any website that how it is going to look like and which things to be placed where.
Any website which is having a good url structure has more chances to appear easily in search engine results. It is a good SEO activity if targeted keywords are used in url to make it SEO friendly, avoid using query strings and other things in a url. Keep it simple. The other thing that you need to take care is to make sure that the name of the url should give proper information on related webpage. Do not try to mislead crawlers by adding wrong keywords in URLs just to rank well in search engines.

Architecture is important, in that it would have to have relevancy to your keywords in order to have better SEO ranking, obviously. Beyond that, it is a matter of personal choice as to how long you want it to be. Some people get a little crazy with this & try to fit as many words as possible, but sometimes this confuses the issue greatly & makes it harder to find them. In my opinion, simple is better, especially for your main page. Make it quick & easy to find. Once they're there, you can direct them to any number of places with more specifics to their questions/different blogposts they may be interested it, etc.

The URL structure can play a very important part of any SEO campaign and is something that you should always take great care and consideration when planning a new website, again, especially more so if the site is going to be driven by a database with thousands of possible data outputs.

actually, making website URLs as per seo Point of view is good for SEO because this would add some weight when search engine's math the query asked by user& bring you on first page if you have mentioned exact match words.
